Good practice
Management of health, safety and environment (HSE) issues in the downstream oil industry can vary widely because of the lack of relevant legislation in developing countries. Creating a global understanding of HSE management norms helps companies consistently apply good practices, wherever they operate.
IPIECA’s Operations, Fuels and Product Issues Committee produces good practice guidance on how to meet HSE expectations cost-effectively.
Over the next five years, IPIECA will produce a new series of reports on downstream environmental management. The reports will be released in beta form on the IPIECA website while being tested at a number of refineries, terminals and retail sites. The documents will capture the views and technical expertise of IPIECA members involved in areas such as:
- Petroleum refining water/wastewater use and management (complete)
- Petroleum refining waste management (Due April 2011)
- Petroleum refining air emission management (Due April 2011)
- Petroleum refining energy efficiency and energy conservation
- Petroleum refining and marketing/distribution terminal environmental remediation and due diligence
- Retail marketing/service station environmental management
- Marketing/distribution terminal environmental management
- Aviation environmental management
- Oil and gas facilities: a guide to community relations
