Stakeholder engagement
IPIECA uses stakeholder engagement to inform our work programme and ensure that our activities reflect key sustainability issues for our industry, as well as the views of stakeholders as we seek to deliver our mission.
IPIECA is committed to the use of transparent and open stakeholder dialogue in its activities. Please contact the secretariat if you would like to provide feedback on any of IPIECA’s current activities or input into future activities.
2001
IPIECA convened its first Stakeholder Dialogue on November 27-29, 2001 at the IUCN Headquarters in Gland, Switzerland. This dialogue was designed to enable an open and informed discussion among IPIECA member companies, intergovernmental organizations, environmental groups, and financial institutions, on emerging strategic issues. The overall theme for this pilot forum was the ‘challenges of providing energy in the 21st century’. A full report of the dialogue is available for download.
2003
IPIECA convened a Stakeholder Dialogue on 22-24 April 2003 at Durdent Court, UK, to explore issues surrounding the social impacts of oil and gas industry in its areas of operations. A full report of the dialogue is available for download.
2008
IPIECA hosted a two-day dialogue with nearly fifty stakeholders drawn from member companies and external stakeholder groups such as academia, civil society and government to validate that IPIECA is addressing the right issues as the basis for the direction and content of its 2009-2012 Strategic Plan. 2012
IPIECA hosted a two-day dialogue with fourty-six stakeholders drawn from the UN, academic bodies, civil society, government, financial institutions, investors and other key sectors as well 23 industry representatives. IPIECA’s objectives for this stakeholder consultation were that participating stakeholders would add value by:
- Contributing their own informed perspectives to IPIECA’s strategic planning process and influencing how priority topics are considered;
- Helping to improve the processes for communicating and engaging on priority issues, enhancing the organization’s overall quality and credibility;
- Sharing with IPIECA staff and member companies their external perspectives, experience and insight into sustainability issues and challenges;
- Providing input and opinions on the stakeholder engagement process itself.
