    Guidance on the application of Globally Harmonized System (GHS) criteria to petroleum substances

    June 2010

    This guidance was developed by IPIECA to facilitate appropriate classification and labelling of petroleum substances within the Unknown or Variable Composition, Complex Reaction Products or Biological Materials (UVCB) group. It was developed with input from experienced technical experts in petroleum substance toxicology and addresses crude oil and petroleum substances produced from oil and gas operations. The guidance includes a Technical Support Document where the principles of the guidance are explained using relevant scientific literature.

    Managing biodiversity impacts: 10 tips for success in the oil and gas industry

    May 2010

    The tips are relevant along every stage of the value chain. They start with ‘Begin yesterday’ and end with ‘Adapt and improve’. Each tip is supported by a resource, many of which are IPIECA/OGP documents. The document itself was launched on Biodiversity Day, 22 May 2010, and is intended as an external communications piece to raise awareness.

    Alien invasive species and the oil and gas industry

    This document delivers practical information to on-the-ground staff at onshore and offshore projects and operations, helping them to identify key issues and solutions and to embed active consideration of alien invasive species (AIS) from the earliest stages of the project. It also provides a high level overview to environmental and project managers on why and how AIS should be managed. In many cases, review and use of this guidance document by contractors and service providers, such as construction and plant and vessel operators, and shipping companies, will also be appropriate.

    Promotion and certification of sustainable biofuels is complex and requires a well coordinated, multi-faceted and credible approach, and includes compliance with government mandates, international standards and certification programmes, which will be instrumental in promoting the responsible production of sustainable biofuels. This guide provides an introduction to biofuels Chain of Custody (CoC) systems as well as providing information on the different types of CoC systems in use.

    Human rights training toolkit - 2nd edition

    As the subject of human rights has risen rapidly on the oil and gas industry agenda IPIECA members have developed this Toolkit to raise awareness. The Toolkit is targeted at country managers, asset managers, business managers, and other personnel that would benefit from learning about human rights issues and the way in which human rights issues have potential implications for oil and gas operations. The Toolkit provides managers with a template that can be used and adapted to conform to a company’s policy or position on human rights and applicable domestic laws and regulations.
