1. What is IPIECA?
IPIECA is the global oil and gas industry association for environmental and social issues.
2. What is the IPIECA vision?
An oil and gas industry that successfully improves its operations and products to meet society’s expectations for environmental and social performance.
3. What is IPIECA's role in the oil and gas industry?
IPIECA develops, shares and promotes good practices and knowledge to help the industry improve its environmental and social performance. It is the industry’s principal channel of communication with the United Nations.
IPIECA helps the oil and gas industry improve its environmental and social performance by:
- Developing, sharing and promoting good practices and solutions
- Enhancing and communicating knowledge and understanding
- Engaging members and others in the industry
- Working in partnership with key stakeholders

IPIECA provides:

- Access to good practices and the latest industry thinking;
- A direct interface with the United Nations;

5. What are the commitments of IPIECA members?
On joining IPIECA, organizations become part of a respected industry group with shared values.
IPIECA members are committed to:
- Contribute to sustainable development by providing safe and reliable energy in an environmentally and socially responsible manner;
- Conduct their operations and activities in accordance with applicable law related to environmental and social issues and ethical business practices;
- Improve their performance in addressing environmental and social issues;
- Develop, share and promote implementation of sound practices and solutions with others in the industry, and
- Engage with stakeholders in order to take into account their expectations, concerns, ideas and views, and work with government and non-government organizations.

7. Who can become an IPIECA member?
Corporate memberships are available to any oil and gas companies with international operations in exploration, production or refining of petroleum.
Association memberships are available to any oil and gas industry associations that are concerned with the environmental and related social aspects of exploration, production or refining of petroleum.
8. Can individuals become IPIECA members?
IPIECA membership is only open for oil and gas companies and associations. Therefore individuals cannot apply for a membership.
9. How can I order an IPIECA publication?
All IPIECA publications are available to download free of charge from our online library. Should you wish to obtain hard copies, please email the Secretariat.
10. Is IPIECA for profit?
IPIECA is a not for profit association. Corporate members contribute to the annual budget according to an individually agreed percentage based on the volume of crude oil produced and petroleum products sold by each company and the number of geographical areas where the company has interests. Association members pay a flat fee each year.
11. Does IPIECA work with other oil and gas associations?
Yes, IPIECA works with other oil and gas associations. IPIECA has a network of association members. Please visit our Membership page for more information.

13. Is IPIECA a lobbying organization?
IPIECA is not a lobbying organization, but provides a forum for encouraging continuous improvement of industry performance.
14. What are IPIECA's areas of interest?
Currently, IPIECA has a working group focusing on each of the following topics:

- Health
- Oil spill preparedness
- Operations and fuels
- Reporting
- Social responsibility.

How to reach the IPIECA Secretariat
The IPIECA Secretariat office is situated on Blackfriars Road. From Southwark underground station, turn left out of the station and continue under the rail road bridge. Once on the other side of the bridge, continue walking until you reach the pedestrian crossing. After crossing Blackfriars Road, the IPIECA offices are in the building on your right. Alternatively, London Waterloo is approximately a 10 minute walk. View a map of our office.
